Why Internet Radio?
“The weekly online radio audience has doubled every five years since 2001, and the online radio audience now reaches an estimated 57 million people aged 12 and older per week. The study finds that the weekly online radio audience now reaches 22% of Americans 12 and older, which is more than a fourfold increase in 10 years.“

What are we talking about here?
“In 2003, revenue from online streaming music radio was $49 million. By 2006, that figure rose to $500 million.”
“A February 21, 2007 “survey of 3,000 Americans released by consultancy Bridge Ratings & Research” found that “as much as 19% of U.S. consumers 12 and older listen to Web-based radio stations." In other words, there were "some 57 million weekly listeners of Internet radio programs. More people listen to online radio than to satellite radio, high-definition radio, podcasts, or cell-phone-based radio combined."
“An April 2008 Arbitron survey showed that, in the US, more than one in seven persons aged 25–54 years old listen to online radio each week. In 2008, 13 percent of the American population listened to the radio online, compared to 11 percent in 2007.”

Who are we?
We are Radio Memphis. An internet radio station. Everything a terrestrial radio station is without the Federal Communications Commission. Our format is local unsigned musicians. We do this for several reasons. Since we are playing unsigned talent, we bypass the paying of ASCAP and BMI broadcast fees thus lowering our overhead. We also think getting away from corporate mandated playlists developed by consultants who don’t know how radio is supposed to sound today is a good thing.
Radio Memphis is run and operated by veterans of the business who know how radio is supposed to operate which can be laid out in the following ways.
Our playlist features good local talent that never gets airplay on conventional stations and thus are loyal to the brand we have created here.
Our air talent broadcasts live. Automation is good in certain aspects however, it is our belief that every voice you hear during an on air shift should speaking to the audience, not at it; live, uncensored and real.
Your advertising dollar is precisely accounted for in exact and certified numbers through Google. There are no estimates of numbers of listeners that other research companies deliver. You will know exactly how many people were exposed to your message at any given time. No terrestrial radio station can make this claim.
Not being bloated with saturated advertisements and sponsorships, your message stands out more clearly.
It’s radio the way it’s supposed to be.
How do we do this?
Thanks to technology, we are able to deliver a consistent signal to our web servers accessible through desktop computers, laptops, netbooks, tablets and smartphones. Thanks to the Radio Memphis application for smatphones, the number of listeners is growing.
“Smartphones accounted for 54 percent of all phone sales to U.S. consumers last quarter, NPD reports, marking the first time that smartphones made up the majority of mobile phone sales. Average smartphone prices dropped 3 percent to $145, but average phone prices rose 2 percent to $102, suggesting that more people are willing to pay a premium for phones with touch screens, web connections and apps. Leading the smartphone pack for U.S. consumers was the iPhone 4, followed by the iPhone 3GS, Motorola's Droid X, HTC's EVO 4G, and HTC's Droid Incredible.”
